Coaching

I coach BIPOC & diasporic leaders* who have stories they are longing to tell

and who are seeking a form of leadership coaching that centers narrative and creativity.

I know from experience how challenging it can be to create and sustain a writing practice while immersed in cause-based work.

No matter where you are in your storytelling journey—perhaps you’re a seasoned movement leader who wants to capture your legacy, a therapist with an idea about de-stigmatizating mental health in immigrant communities, or a climate justice leader dreaming of writing your cli-fi novel; or perhaps you’re an artist-organizer who wants to communicate frameworks for using art to decolonize the psyche—I will meet you where you’re at, and help you find a sense of balance, self-trust, and joyful discovery.

// Here are some key areas we might work on together //

// Connecting with and tending to the story you’re longing to tell

// Recognizing and addressing obstacles (internal and external) to your creative practice

// Establishing and sustaining a creative practice that works for you and honors your values, aspirations, and constraints

// Overcoming isolation and building creative community

// Trusting yourself and your creative intuition

// Letting go of perfectionism and practicing self-compassion and joyful discovery

// Developing a concept, synopsis, or book proposal

// Advice on querying and pitching process

* I coach individuals working with liberatory values in various sectors, including social justice, human rights, youth development, mental health, philanthropy, education, and more.

Values—this is where Mimi starts. Right at the core of who you are and what you need. Mimi taught me new practices for writing and life. The connection is organic, the feeling is calm but productive, fruitful, and well-structured.
— Roland J., writer
As a BIPOC woman whose experiences have either been ignored, silenced or questioned, it takes a full embodied YES to share my voice and stories. That YES is only possible because of Mimi’s unwavering belief that my stories matter and the deep care that she puts into listening to all my jumbled feelings of self-doubt and possibility in starting this journey as a writer.
I have been amazed by Mimi’s ability to create a container where I feel empowered, confident, and challenged to be a better writer. She is incredibly thoughtful in her feedback process, only giving it if requested, and intentional about the structure of the feedback. I am so grateful to have this coaching relationship with Mimi. After just one session with her, I felt brave enough to share some of my writing and could feel my fear of writing transforming into joy and anticipation.
— Ja Young A.W., Organizational consultant & leadership coach
Mimi was always a warm and steady presence despite the chaos of my life. Mimi’s ability to center the art and gentleness of writing without dismissing the realities of publishing was exactly what I needed at the time. She helped me build a permanent resilience I rely on every day to persevere as a writer.
